Stinky Surprises and the Sun

I didn’t know Last.fm could spring such dirty surprises. Grmbl. Bloody thing just ruined my night.

Oh well.

Still sick.

Still miserable.

But hey, the Sun came out today. Yes, it deserves a capital S. I’ve missed it.

In Psychology (I can’t remember which one, but probably Behavioural Neuroscience), we learnt about seasonal depression. And yea, for a couple of days late last week, I think I had mild depression. The bleakness of the days and the greyness of the clouds and everything just made me all down and sad. Well, plus the cough of course.

But yea, when I saw the Sun today after I opened the curtains, I actually exclaimed aloud. And smiled. Heh.

I love the Sun. I grew up with the Sun. I can’t live without the Sun.

I’m weird.

I need sleep.

It’s 3.30am and I can’t go back to sleep because of this racking cough. It’s pissing me off so much. There’ve been more than a couple of times when I have one of those coughing fits, and almost throw up. Not fun, especially when you’re in a lecture or with friends or something. Grmbl.

I’m so tired, but everytime I lie down, the cough monster comes back. I’ve already stacked my 2 pillows up, and it still doesn’t help.

Heidi and Simon came over today to have a huge music exchange fest. And yea, huge is huge indeed. My iTunes library’s playtime expanded 2 days. Yay! I’ll have to find some time to listen to the new stuff. Hm. Most of it are punk though, something I’ve been gradually growing out of. O well. It’s still cool.

I need sleep. Grmbl.

It’s you!

It’s amazing how small Melbourne is. I went jamming yesterday at a sound studio with the rest of the guys. Clint picked me up and we were rather late, but yea, couldn’t be helped. Reached the place and the rest of them were already there. The new guitarist was there too! Yay! His name’s Ben, and when I introduced myself, he told me his wife’s name is Evelyn too. Heh.

But yea, he was pretty friendly and all. Not as good a guitarist as Clint though, but still pretty good. He was picking things up rather quickly, that’s always a plus. We’re asking him to come back again next Thursday, and then Simon will give him the thorough walk-through examination. Hehe. Poor Simon. You can tell he’s not having lots of fun doing all the “admin” stuff, and that he just wants to concentrate on the music. Ah well. It needs to be done, so yea.

We did a couple of songs we were working on, and then worked on more. Then, Adem (drummer) and Ben had to leave because they got “the call”. As in from their wives, asking them where they are and blah blah blah. Heh. So, while they were packing their stuff and bringing it to their cars, the door to our room was left open. And I was just sitting on a chair with the door to my right. Was chatting with Simon and Adem who was standing by the door, and then, I saw this very familiar figure walk past.

I was quite certain it was Sleep Parade’s singer Leigh, but I was way too shocked and by the time I decided to call out, it was too late. Meh. So, I just went back to my business, and then James, Sleep Parade’s bassist, walked by. Again, I wasn’t too sure because James looks like your typical brown/black-haired guy. And yea, I haven’t really gotten a good look at him, to tell the truth. Hm. So I let it slip yet again.

And then Dan walked by. Now, Dan was different from the other two. He stared straight into the room, and straight at me. Even though we’d said hi briefly before at The Evelyn Hotel at one of their gigs, he didn’t recognise me. And by the time I got over the shock that it was Sleep Parade, he had gone. ARGH! I had half-raised my hand and was ready to shout out, but he disappeared past the door frame. Oh well.

I’m so slow. Yes, I am. But yea, it was quite a shock that they rehearse at the same studio as us. Hah! Maybe I’ll see them there again! Woo! I messaged Leigh on OzProg that I saw them that night, but he has yet to reply. Oh well.

So that was last night. Had a pretty easy day today. Went to a couple of opshops today to look for a winter coat, but turned up with nothing. Marion and Elizabeth were with me, so that was fun. Heh. Marion kept talking about her back and showing us how it cracked. Disgusting, girl, disgusting! No one wants to hear it crack, m’dear. Hehe.

Man… I just realised that if we jam next Thursday, I’ll have to miss it because of my Cog gig. Fuck. I want to jam, damnit! Thankfully the studio’s booked out next Thursday, so hopefully we’ll be able to do Wednesday night. Man, I’m going to be so smashed by Sunday. I’ve got like 3 gigs, Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. And if we’re jamming Wednesday night, that’ll be 4 late nights in a row. Wish me luck. Heh.

Haven’t been able to go to work the past 3 sessions. Urgh. There goes my pay. Grmbl.

Dreams do come true.

It all started with Muse that fateful day in January last year. The crazy day I spent queueing with other crazy fans, and then having the craziest night of my life then. And then, it just kept getting better. The Matches, Architecture in Helsinki, Muse again.

Then 2008 rolled around, and guess what?! Dream Theater announced their first Australian tour. Was there, loved it. Then, it was Explosions in the Sky! And then Okkervil River! The Matches returned yet again. And then, Coheed and Cambria. Then, the ultimate gig of my life yet, Porcupine Tree. Their first Australian tour too.

Still to come? The Mars Volta. That’s going to be one hell of a night.

And last night, Triple J (a radio station) announced Opeth was coming! FUCK YES!

And tonight, I logged into Myspace, thinking all was boring again. And the top status in my friends was “Sigur Ros has added shows in NYC, Sydney and Melbourne.” MELBOURNE! SIGUR ROS! IN MELBOURNE!

I can’t fucking wait. I seriously can’t fucking wait. After I missed out on last year’s show… I’m going to make damn sure it doesn’t happen again.

YES! SIGUR ROS! MELBOURNE! Okok, I shall stop boring you guys. But, yes, take a listen to Sigur Ros if you can. They’re so fucking awesome. They’re the ultimate post-rock band EVER.

So lately…

Soo… we finally decided to upgrade to the next Internet plan, because we just couldn’t stand the throttled Internet anymore. Heh. It was only ten bucks more for twice the amount of download. So why the hell not? I don’t know why we didn’t do it sooner. D’oh. Heh.

But yea, I’m downloading Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill and Lost at the moment. Finally! Hehe.

I’m still sick, couldn’t go to work today because I didn’t want to pass the germs to Evan. Urgh… I hope I get better by Friday. I need the money. Grmbl.

Working on an assignment now though, so yea, hopefully I can get it done soon.

Been listening to quite a lot of metal. Mm…

The jamming on Sunday was awesome! Clinton has a studio in his backyard. Geez. He said it cost him about 60K. Man… and he apparently has 17 guitars, fender stratocasters. Pfft. He is loaded, I swear. Gosh… heh. But yea, been working on 2 songs that Simon wrote, and Clinton’s wrote a couple I think, so yep. I, on the other hand, have been trying to write 2 piano solos for 2 of Simon’s songs, and yea, one’s more or less alright-sounding, while the other’s a hopeless mess. Urgh. I hope I get it done by Thursday. That’s when we’re jamming next. Yay! Can’t wait! Simon said there’s going to be a second guitarist who might be popping in. Whee!

Oh, and Simon agreed to give me driving lessons once my exams are done. YAY! Dum dee dum, I’m happy. Hehe. At least now I’ve got driving and music to focus on after my exams. Hehe.
